6 Nights for Travelling
4*
We booked this hotel after reading some positive reviews and identifying it as having an ideal location in terms of distance from landmarks and also the North Railway Station. It is not far from the Metro, we got off at Wulukou station and it is roughly a 10 minute walk northward. To be honest we were expecting an average hotel from some of the pictures and for the price we payed, however entering the lobby it is clear that it is a well maintained and high-end 'ish' hotel. The lobby is large and even has a small moat with fish. Check in was simple, and no deposit required.
The room was spacious and and had all the amenities one would expect like a fridge, safe, TV, and nice toiletries provided. There was even and ironing board and extras like a sewing kit, we assume is for the business clients as there was also wired internet. The internet [un wired] was not great and I'm not sure as to it's safety as there was no password and no security on it...
The room is cleaned daily and there is free bottled water, the bathroom has a nice ambient music feature, however they only seem to have one and a half songs on repeat. The room is slightly tired; peeling wallpaper and a shower nozzle that was half broken. There was even a crack above the window sill that some building insulation was slowly raining down from. Despite having a window, the view was pretty poor, we looked eastwards from floor 12 over what appears to be a sort of slum-like area. The bed was also a bit sketchy, it just seemed like several mattresses were layed upon one another, however we got decent nights sleep.
We can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't try it, we opted to eat at local bakeries etc. On top of this, our experience with the staff was moderate as we did ask about nice places to eat, their English is not great however that is understandable (and I cannot speak over 3 words of Chinese so they're better than me) however once they understood they could only recommend their diner... and a small eatery right next door which was more like a Chinese McDonald's. I visited the gym which has a good amount of equipment and is basically always empty (the self sign-in/sign-out rota had only been signed twice in a week when I looked at it). What is strange, as many others note, the photo they use is of the hotel opposite, not their hotel which is grander in size and style so it baffles me as to why they don't update it. Overall we had a good experience at the hotel and it was adequate to meet our travelling needs, check out was simple again and gave us plenty of time to reach our train to Chengdu.
